About This Calculator

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a value derived from your mass (weight) and height. It was invented by Belgian mathematician Adolphe Quetelet in the early 19th century as a simple population-level measure. Despite its limitations, it remains the most widely used screening tool for weight categories that may lead to health problems.

To use this calculator, enter your height and weight. Your BMI will be calculated instantly and categorized according to World Health Organization standards. For a more complete picture of your health, consider also checking your waist-to-height ratio.
